In some cases the paint was applied to the rock with a finger, but the fine lines many of the paintings shows that the spikes, feathers, or fine bone were used. The painting has been stored in the horn of animals and these containers were found in Drakensberg, South Africa. The main color was red or shade of red – Etc pink, brown, and this was achieved with red ocher, which is the iron ore (hematite), and there are large deposits throughout Africa. yellow paint was made from ocher yellow (limonite). Black paint coal and manganese. Other paintings were made of egg, urine, fat and plant sap. I am well acquainted with Africa and its history. Hope this helps you make some good paintings.
